El Proyecto’s Behavioral Health Program provides counseling and referrals to men and women with substance abuse and mental health problems, including specialized services for women who are pregnant, postpartum or parenting. The Program is staffed by bilingual and drug-certified counselors. It assists men and women in areas including domestic violence/sexual abuse, self-esteem, peer support, life skills, health education, drug education, 12 step/relapse, and parenting who receive treatment rather than incarceration. This program is a certified State of California MediCal Drug Program.

Counseling Services:
The counseling program includes both individual and group counseling sessions. Individual counseling sessions are provided based on treatment plan, developed by both case manager and client.
Educational groups include: Parenting, Health Education, Life Skills, Relapse Prevention, Domestic Violence and Peer Support, and 12 Step Relapse.
Behavioral Health Services:
Psychological screenings and assessment will be conducted by a licensed therapist who will develop a psychological history, consisting of identifying chemical dependency, psychiatric and neuropsychological problems and evaluate the client’s individual mental health needs and employment and drug history. Other information on family functioning, cultural/ethnic factors, peer influence, defiant behavior, anti-social attitudes, mental and emotional distress and school adjustment problems are also gathered.
Parent Co-op-Child Care Services:
Child care is provided to clients with children 0-5 years. Child care is conducted as a parent Co-op, where staff, in conjunction with the clients, provides the services. The parent co-op is an opportunity for clients to further develop and display parenting skills learned.
Referral Services:
El Proyecto provides internal referrals to health services, employment and training, HIV/AIDS educational counseling, vocational and employment training, legal aid and other community resources so as to meet the client’s needs.
Medical Services:
All clients will receive a medical needs assessment and will be referred to El Proyecto’s Family Health Care Clinics for primary health care within the first thirty (30) days of enrollment.
Urinalysis Testing Services:
All clients are required to submit to random urinalysis testing for the duration of their treatment.
Child, Elder and Incapacitated Abuse Reporting:
The program is required to report suspected child, elder and incapacitated abuse and neglect. Suspected abuse is reported, to the appropriate agency, or agencies, with or without the client’s consent.
Re-admission:
Clients may be re-admitted into El Proyecto’s Prenatal Program. The client must wait a 30 day period before re-admitting into the program. During this wait period, the client is to attend 12-step support meetings as recommended by case manager, so as to demonstrate willingness and a desire to work a recovery program. Failure to submit proof of 12-step attendance at the time of intake may result in failure to be admitted into the program.
Program Fees:
Ability to pay is not a consideration for admission. Fees for services will be charged depending on financial ability to pay according to the Fee Determination form (UMDAP) and Fee Agreement Form.
Transportation Services:
El Proyecto vans are available to provide transportation for program clients and their children.
