El Proyecto del Barrio, Inc. has provided an extensive array of health and medical, employment, behavioral health and child development services to the community for more than 50 years.  Founded in 1971 to provide services to the Northeast San Fernando Valley, El Proyecto has expanded its services to the entire San Fernando Valley, the San Gabriel Valley and East Los Angeles.

The organization’s legacy of success flows from its strategy linking El Proyecto to underserved populations in the communities it serves, enhancing its ability to identify and help thousands of individuals and families that have not been reached by previous outreach efforts.  The organization infuses culturally appropriate strategies with an affirmation of family values and traditions.  This approach has established El Proyecto as a trusted service provider that creates a safe and respectful environment for its clients.
 
El Proyecto works with community organizations, cities, Los Angeles County, the State of California and the federal government, small companies and major corporations to fund comprehensive community services and advocacy for economically disadvantaged youth and adults.
 
The organization has built a cherised “Pride in Excellence” in its “whole person” approach which as been honored both regionally and nationally.  El Proyecto has become a symbol of hope for all the communities it serves.

Substances Abuse

El Proyecto’s Behavioral Health Program provides counseling and referrals to men and women with substance abuse and mental health problems, including specialized services for women who are pregnant, postpartum or parenting. The Program is staffed by bilingual and drug-certified counselors. It assists men and women in areas including domestic violence/sexual abuse, self-esteem, peer support, life skills, health education, drug education, 12 step/relapse, and parenting who receive treatment rather than incarceration.
